A core skill at GB Electronics (UK) Ltd (GBE) is in the mobile data communication industry - specifically for taxi dispatch data systems. This system facilitates a fully integrated data communication system, whereby a fleet of 10 to over 1000 cars can communicate on a single channel and is designed to operate 24/7, 365 days a year.

GBE has been involved in this industry from the early 1990s. This involvement, as their client's (Auriga Systems Ltd) preferred electronic manufacturing and design partner, includes:

• Product manufacturing under type approval (VCA/emark), over 45,000 units to date.
• Supply chain management.
• Technical support.

• Ad hoc custom design projects.
• CE.Net Operating System development.

The latest product in the range, the CT4000, is an industrial PDA with a PMR. GBE was involved in making the unit ready for manufacture - which was achieved by optimising the Windows CE.Net operating system (this included writing device driver libraries and building a tailored O/S for the unit). Further customising the low-level electronic boot code (to optimise the unit's performance with a given set of peripheral devices) and optimising its functional performance by upgrading the hardware. GBE also provided the full 'turn key' solution for this product, which included BGA surface mount assembly, JTAG boundary scan testing, preparing customised test jigs and routines and facilitating the service and maintenance work. This also included designing a bespoke mounting bracket for the unit.

GBE therefore has invaluable experience in volume manufacturing and logistical support. It has also enabled us to develop our in-house knowledge of PMR systems and GPS, as well as mechanical and ergonomic design and thorough testing procedures, such as vibration testing.
